It is still played every Saturday in Italy. In late 1770, the bingo game was introduced in France from Italy. It was called Le Lotto in France which is played among rich Frenchmen. In 1800, Germans has also played a version of the game, but it's used as child's game to help students in learning math, spelling and history in Germany. Italian lottery game had made its way to America in 1929 via carnival pitchman touring Germany.
Bingo was originally called beano and it was a country fair game. A caller would pick a number from a box and players would mark their cards with beans. When a player had marked all the numbers of his card, he shouted "beano" to the caller. Edwin S. Loew, New York toy salesman, renamed its "bingo" after he overheard someone accidentally yell bingo instead of beano. By 1930, the game was played to increase money for charities in America. That practice is still continues in USA.
Until 1960, bingo did not become well known in UK. In 1968, such gamming act was passes which allowing clubs to play prize and cash bingo through tabletop coin slots, as well as creating gaming board to control online bingo clubs. |
